We interviewed Kat, owner of @katsfits (http://katsfits.thryft.shop) to learn about the ways she’s using Thryft to grow her business. Read on to learn about her story.

When did you start your business and why?

I originally made this account back in 2019 to sell unwanted clothes from my own closet casually. It was something to do during quarantine and a way to make some extra pocket change. However, towards the end of May 2020, I discovered this incredible online thrifting community on Instagram. I had no idea the platform was home to such a marketplace that promoted sustainability, inclusivity, and diversity. I was captivated by this opportunity to start my own business, so I began putting more effort into my account. Gradually, my tiny personal closet of a shop turned into a thrifting/reselling small business. I initially decided to do this because I thought it would be cool to create something that’s entirely my own, something I can be proud of. However, as I’ve been in this community for nearly a year now, I’ve learned so much about sustainable fashion and how our small businesses are helping the fashion industry. It’s so fulfilling to know that something you put all your time and effort into is essentially saving the planet, no matter how big or small the impact is.

What type of product do you sell on your website?

All of my clothing items are second hand and pre-loved, sourced from both in-person and online thrift stores.

How do you sell using Thryft and Instagram?

I use Instagram to connect more personally with my followers, while I use Thryft for the more professional aspects of my business. Instagram is the initial face of my business. I post all of my drops on Instagram, as well as story updates so I can connect with my followers more quickly and conveniently. Through stories, I can share about myself with my followers and get to know them as well, creating a more personal and friendly environment at KatsFits. The interactions I have with customers don’t feel serious or strictly business, more like conversations between friends 🙂 I use Thryft to keep track of everything that happens behind the scenes: shipping packages, creating labels, my profit margin, revenue, website analytics, etc. I no longer have to input costs and orders manually because Thryft does it all for me! I don’t even have to send tracking numbers to each customer like I used to because they are automatically emailed to them. So much of my time and energy is saved because of Thryft’s easy to use platform!

How has scaling your business been?

It’s getting better and better as I continue to run my business! At the start of all this, I honestly had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know how to track different costs and actually began losing money. Now that I’ve been doing this for nearly a year, I actually know how to manage the different aspects of my business so that I benefit the best I can from it.

How has your experience as a reseller been?

It’s been so much fun! I honestly think it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve met so many amazing friends on here who are running their own small businesses just like me and it’s just been great to go through this journey together. I couldn’t ask for a more strong and supportive community to be a part of ❤
